Now that you have braces, it is more important than ever to maintain good oral hygiene during your treatment, as Dr. Mark Guevarra will tell you. While we trust you will continue brushing and flossing on a regular basis throughout your treatment at Iowa Orthodontic Solutions, you also have to mindful of what you eat. While all those sweet, sour, and sticky candies may taste great, these treats can actually damage your teeth and braces!
Sour candies can be acidic to your teeth, and actually wear down the enamel that protects them, resulting in tooth decay and cavities. If you do indulge in eating these candies at some point during your treatment, be sure to wash your mouth out with water, drink milk or eat a few slices of cheese. These foods will help neutralize the acid in your mouth.
Besides cavities and tooth decay, many people do not realize that good oral health and hygiene are important to your overall health, too; researchers have discovered the connection between periodontal disease and other major health concerns, such as heart disease. Therefore, it is important to maintain a good oral hygiene routine just as you did before your braces. This includes visiting your dentist here in Iowa every six months, brushing and flossing daily, and using an antibacterial mouthwash, as well as visiting Dr. Mark Guevarra for your regular adjustment appointments.
For more questions about foods you should avoid while wearing braces, or if you have any general questions about your treatment, we encourage you to give us a call, ask us at your next adjustment appointment or ask us on Facebook!

Patient Coordinator
I schedule patient appointments, coordinate schedules, answer general questions, and keep the office running smoothly. I have been with Iowa Orthodontics for two years as of April 20th. Our staff is friendly and get along great! The practice is growing and we are always busy. I love meeting new patients and new faces. I enjoy spending time in the yard and garden, working and playing with my 3 Papillons (dogs). I am involved with fostering rescue papillons until they can find a forever home. I enjoy camping, hiking and being outdoors. I also like running and have run in the Des Moines Half Marathon, Dam to Dam and several 5 and 10K runs. Our biggest news however, is we are expecting our first baby due May 12th, 2014!

"Motherhood: All love begins and ends there." - Robert Browning
We would like to take this moment to thank all the great moms out there for being so great during their child’s visits to Iowa Orthodontic Solutions. Whether it’s driving their kids to regularly scheduled appointments or for “being there” while their child is treatment, the moms who come to our office are all stellar individuals, so Dr. Mark Guevarra and our entire staff would like you to know that we appreciate you all!
Happy Mother’s Day and enjoy your special day!

Dear Staff at Iowa Orthodontic Solutions:
We are writing this letter to thank you for your kind assistance this past Monday (February 10, 2014). Our family was in town from Virginia for a family funeral when our son, Bennett, cracked a bracket on his back molar. We reached out to see if we could get someone help look at the issue so it wasn't a distraction the remainder of the day and trip. When we called your office, the receptionist very kindly made an appointment for him later in the afternoon in between our funeral events. Within minutes of arriving in the afternoon we were allowed to use a private room and scoot to the front of your queue. Dr. Langwith and his assistant quickly saw us and rectified our problem.
We realize how busy your office was that time of day and greatly appreciate the care he received that afternoon. Everyone we spoke to was very kind and helpful. Furthermore, you did so free of charge. We greatly appreciate your efforts not only to help our son feel better, but to be so accommodating with us during a difficult day. Afterwards, Bennett was feeling much better and we were able to finish out the trip and get him home to see his own orthodontist. Thank you again for your kindness and taking the time to help us with our situation- we told our whole family in the local area to send their kids to your office!
Sincerely,
Brian and Amye
